Hi Baker! If you think that is bad, there is something even worst than that. Everybody knows the Hippies back in time right? One thing wanted is NO fashions and their philosophy says that use what the media shows you, only because the media is showing that, is bad! Media would be mad with the Hippies, they were going against them... BUT... What happened? Media took Hippies like a stereotype, and started to sell shirts with what they call Hippies design... So, they pretty much absorbed the Hippie movement! And now people BUY hippie shirts to say that they are hippies, but what they don't now is that If they were really hippies, they wouldn't have been buying it!!! They are just being what The Media want!
Hello to all of you!
I have not heard of Oasis. Sounds interesting. Lucas, you should come in during tutorial or after school to discuss upgrading to writer status so you can have your own space on my wiki. I will have to approve the items and movies you would like to have considered for the page. You are so right about the hippies! LOL!
Hello Baker! You are making a good point about all the emphasis on name brands and what not. You mentioned some examples of those whom you would consider to be ugly male actors. Perhaps the comedic gift that he possesses makes him beautiful and desirable to some people! Another thought just occurred to me about beauty. How would we know it without the ugly? How would we know the light without the dark?
We need the dull just like Andy needs Barney Fife and Abbot needs Costello! Wow! I am waxing very philosophical here! LOL! Will discuss this issue more later!
the video is very true. the beauty industry is distording people. if they have to distort people then dont use them let people be them selfs.
about the book though DW its so confusing to me. bradbury has a mind of his own that i dont quite get.
The video is so true, the beauty industry just needs to stop trying to change the looks of women because no woman is ever going to look like the "perfect" one. And i like chapter 10 of DW because it caught my attention.
My favorite chapter of DW would have to be 10, I thought it was really good. I thought the part about the lonely one being death was interesting and kind of creepy.
I would have to say my favorite chapter in Bradbury's Dandelion Wine would be chapter 13. During this chapter, Bradbury uses Leo Auffman's Happiness Machine to symbolise people's need for entertainment and "happiness". Leo soon realizes in all the work he put into his machine, his family is what was truely important to him.
Hey look i left a comment and got on, yay, now lets talk about something thats actually important. Why Bob Dole didn't win the 96' election. Sure the beauty industry does set standards that not even i could compare to, but really Bob Dole 2012, i can make anyone go to office. Just like i helped my good friend Nick Dale win homecoming court last year, not to mention he's going to win king next year. Dole 2012/Dale 2009.
URG!! Bradbury is so confusing i dont get this book at all..
he needs to right like most authors that actually make since!
and joe you never know because we have all these new freshman guys that think they are all goody-goody
dont get me wrong most of them are nice but they have dreams out of this world coming into high school
I HATE the way people today believe that wveryone has to be perfect! The truth is i dont think
you could find one person that is truely perfect in everyway. People should be proud to be who they are and
not want to change that in anyway. BE yourself live life and have fun!

"Do American women lack self-esteem more so than women in Canada or Germany?"
I think its natural in a woman to have self-esteem issues, but some people ALOT more than others. I think its the same in every country, but they're culture is different and they dont express it.
I think they should focus on some self esteem issues for men too, because men have self esteem problems too. They want to be all "macho" and act like some things don't bug them. People have to realize that men have the same issues too, and its not just women. Granted, women take it to heart more than men, but it still applies to them too.
I have a poem on self-esteem that I wrote a year ago or so....
I am enjoying reading all of the comments!! Kaily. Your point is well taken. Men do indeed have self esteem issues to deal with just as women. Perhaps you would like to share your poem on self esteem on our classroom wiki! Thanks for commenting! :)
WOOT! finally got that video watched! Yeah, it does very effectively show how we misinterpret beauty. I think that here in the United States it is worse than in other countries becuase here in the U.S. we use looks to cell things, kinda like the lady on the billboard at the end. I think this is because United States doesnt have the morals that it use to. Any movie you go and see that is a big movie is usually rated R because of completely and totally unnecessary cussing and nudity. Just like the first time I watched 300, I was psyched up for the killing and the action and the fighting and it was awesome! But they added in a completely unnecessary sex scene right towards the begginning of the movie. The scene played no significance to the plot whatsoever and wouldnt have hurt the movie at all if it hadnt been in there. Anyway, I am done ranting about stupid stuff in blockbusters now...back to the discussion.
I will have to say that the beauty industry has changed and girls and guys both have lower self esteem go lower and lower each time
that we someone thiner, taller, more beautiful or anything that would seem better and it gets to the point through more girls heads that guys never the less i think it just gets to a point in your mind you think that i want that and its only something you can achieve by a computer and a program calle photoshop, the thing is that the industry has changed and that there barley is natural beauty anymore in the industry but i think there still is as long as you have the coffidince the personality and if you see yourself as beautiful well thats good but if you have a bad personality then you will go nowhere i think if you are a pretty girl or handsome boy with a good personality you will go far and people see true beauty.Thats my opinion and thats what the industry should be based off of not what i call *FAKE BEAUTY* like my somewhat quote "see people for who they really are not what they wear or how they look or wat they own see people as people nothing more"
Baker and Ashmore, Thanks for commenting. You have made some excellent points. Baker you point out the R rated movies. Yet, your point seems incongruent or illogical due to the fact that you said you were all "psyched up for the killing and the action and the fighting." Often, the R rating of a movie is based on the violence and not just the language or sexual content. To Ashmore's point, I agree with your thoughts on "Fake Beauty" and the maxim to see people as they "really are not what they wear or how they look."
thank you but anymore these days thats all there is, is fake beuaty, it should be the otherwasy around. if only we lived in a world where it could be. but unfortuntly we dont. but until then this is what we have to deal with.
Yeah, I know that, I was just saying that the stupid sex scene was unneeded which goes along with the point that american society today uses sex to sell which goes along with using looks to sell products which goes along with people having to be doctored up in photos and they not look like there real self, and i like the new picture too...well...actually i havent seen it yet...but if i had already, im sure i would have liked it :)
Baker, agreed. Are you unable to view the above picture on your computer? This was the photo published in the CHS Press.
Perhaps this thread has run its course. We need a new idea for the homepage. Should we retire the Dove video and add something new? We need some suggestions.
Okay, let's retire the discussion of the Dove commercial. The topic "politics" or the "new president" seems too general. Do you have a more specific topic in mind? For example, President Obama gave a speech on education this week. He mentioned that he supports merit pay for teachers and alternative schools such as charter schools. Some citizens are for these ideas and some are against. Do you have an opinion on this topic? Merit pay means paying teachers according to student achievement rather than seniority. Charter schools offer alternatives to parents as to where to send their children to school. What do you think the pros and cons to these ideas might be?
well the merit pay.......i think it could be good or bad. like for example the student should be punished for not getting good grades, not the teachers pay. because some students slack because they want too, and that student should be punished, not the teacher because thats just not fair. on the charter schools...if they let the student have a say on where to go to, i think it would work. but i think it would fail because most people would chooses where theyre friends go, not where they think they would do best...
